We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Wayne Clayton Ford, 94, also known as Coup, and formerly of Chatham, IL passed away in Brenham, TX on December 2, 2021. Wayne was born on October 9, 1927 in Greene County, Illinois to Clayton and Leta (Cunningham) Ford. He was the oldest of their three children.
On September 2, 1951, Coup married the love of his life Virginia “Gin” Woods. They welcomed two children Michael (Mike) and Vernetta in the years following.
Coup served as an educator for 35+ years. He taught in the classroom, was an elementary school principal, a high school principal, an assistant superintendent, and a superintendent. Following retirement, he worked in the Education Service Center for the State of Illinois. The majority of his educational career was performed in Sangamon County.
Coup was the proud owner of a 1957 Buick. He was a member of several classic automobile clubs and attended the annual Indianapolis 500 race numerous times. He also served in many community service organizations and was always an active member in his local Methodist church. He was also a proud Army veteran.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 70+ years Virginia Ford; his son Michael Ford (wife Dixie); daughter Vernetta Zeller (husband Martin); grandchildren Sandra, Bethany, Kyle, and Nathan; and 12 great-grandchildren Jaclyn, Kinsey, Abigail, Victor, Caleb, Thomas, Martin, Clare, Gregory, Ford, Mary, and Myers. He is also survived by his sisters Marylou of Phoenix, Arizona and Edith Henneberg of White Hall, IL.
Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021 from 10 am till 11 am at Bramley Funeral Home in Auburn. Graveside services will be at 12:30 pm at Hickory Grove Cemetery near Wrights, IL.
