Thomas R. Hoffman, 78, of Springfield, IL passed away at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026 at his home.
He was born on May 31, 1947 in Decatur, IL to John L. and Irene (Olsen) Hoffman.
Tom married Mary Rose Maurer-Sunley on May 6, 1995 at the TRN Boat Club and she survives. Tom also leaves behind his children; grandchildren; great- grandchildren; siblings; and many cousins, nieces & nephews.
He served in the Army and Vietnam War for 3 years (from January 26, 1967 to January 23, 1970) as a Sharpshooter; Rifle Expert; and Airframe Repairman. He was an avid hobbyist and sportsman. He enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, fishing and boating. Tom was also an aviation enthusiast. He built his own Ultralight airplane in 1997 & enjoyed flying it in his retirement. Tom served as a Sheriff's Deputy for 26 years before retiring in 2004. He loved spending time with his family & leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories.
As per Tom's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a private graveside ceremony at Old Salem Cemetery will be held at a later date in Spring.
