Ruth E. Psaute was born on January 22, 1923 in Auburn, Illinois, at the home of her parents, George and Verna Mae (Myers) Psaute.
She graduated from Auburn High School. She went on to earn a BA in English and a BS in Music Education from Olivet Nazarene College as well as a Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois.
Her entire career was spent influencing young lives through music education. She taught at Thawville, Kempton, Gilman and Saunemin, where her high school choirs won many district and state contests. She also played piano for Nazarene churches for many years. She continued to entertain her friends by playing her piano until her death.
Surviving siblings are George Psaute (Mesa, AZ) and Jeanne Middleton (Plymouth, IN). Siblings which preceded her in death were Billy, Dorothy, Parker, Victor, and Herbert Psaute; and Eskie Straka. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, including Jim Psaute of Auburn. She fascinated many of these younger relatives by reminiscing about her and her siblings’ childhoods.
Ruth recently resided at The Pointe at Pontiac, Illinois, then moved to Plymouth, Indiana to be closer to family where she passed away on August 13, 2020. Burial will be in the Auburn Cemetery.
