Ronald E. “Ron” Dockery, 66 of Springfield passed away Thursday, Nov. 25, 2021 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 27, 1955 in St. Louis, Mo., the son of George and Mary Inez Burks Dockery.
Ronald married Catherine Bolash on Nov. 1, 2009 at New City Community Church in New City, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents. Also preceded in death by his son, Samuel; two brothers, Dewayne and Thomas.
Ron was retired from Lambert Airport where he worked on the Maintenance Crew. He had a love for music. As a young man, he played drums and sang back up for The City Farmers Band in the St. Louis area and was considered a semi-professional musician. He was choir director for Lesley Baptist Church in Lesley, Mo. In later years, he played a Q Chord and sang in a nursing home ministry called Buttons and Strings. He was an active member of New City Community Church. For several years he played drums with the praise team, and recently ran the sound board for the church. He loved to make people laugh and could always be counted on for good fun or a corny joke. Ron loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine; son, Mike (Courtney) Dockery of St. Louis, Mo.; daughters, Stephanie (Matthew) Brake of Sullivan, Mo. and Veronica “Roni” Dockery (partner Kristi Kelley) of Crossett, Arkansas; step-children, Nicholas (Denise) Dorr of Bloomington, IL., Elissa (Jon) Hooper of Brownsburg, IN., and Emilee (Tim) Kemper of New Berlin, IL.; two sisters, Debra Sharp and Tina (Jay) Redus; one brother, Jonathon (Kimberly) Dockery; 16 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 am till the time of service at 11:30 am with Pastor Ivan Gurhrie officiating. Monday, Dec. 6. 2021 at New City Community Church in New City. Burial will be at a later date in Brush Creek Cemetery, Divernon, IL.
