Robert Lee “Bob” Davenport passed away Friday, May 17, 2024 at his home, two weeks before his 89th birthday.
He was born May 31, 1935 in Springfield, the son of Howard and Juanita Lee Davenport.
Bob married Marilyn Lebel on September 1, 1962, and they enjoyed over 61 years together.
Bob had a long and diverse career. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He studied physics and mathematics at Western Illinois University, graduating in 1968. He worked at Allis-Chalmers in Springfield in the service department, and he worked as an engineer in California and Ohio. He ran his own welding and steel fabrication business for over 40 years.
He was a member of the Chatham American Legion and Knights of Columbus 4179.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn; his son, Randy (Holly) of Massachusetts; his granddaughter, Caitlyn of Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11am, Friday, June 28, 2024 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Rev. Sergio Lizama officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the InterVeterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
