Robert “Bob” E. Bon Durant, Jr. 64 of Divernon, IL passed away Monday, December 22, 2025 at St. John’s Hospital.
He was born July 25, 1961 in Terre Haute, IN; the son of Robert E. and Joyce Garner Bon Durant, Sr. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Anna Garner and Edward and Bertha Bon Durant; brother-in-law, Dale Haney; his dogs, Holly Elizabeth, Toby Michael and Chino; and his cats, Sara Jane, Simon Arthur and Tegan.
Bob married Mary Haney on July 1, 2000 at Divernon Methodist Church.
He graduated from Robinson High School where he was a national merit scholarship finalist. He graduated from Knox College. Bob received a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from SIU Carbondale. He was an Eagle Scout and was active in the Boy Scouts for his entire life. Bob worked as the Administrative Law Judge for the Illinois Department of Employment Security at the State of Illinois for over 20 years. He enjoyed cooking for the Capital Canine Training Club agility trails.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; parents, Robert and Joyce Bon Durant of Brazil, IN; two brothers, Gregory (Debra) Bon Durant of Terre Haute, IN and Jonathan (Melissa) Bon Durant of Highland, IL; dogs, Tanner Isaac, Buddy Isaiah and Sealey Andrew; mother-in-law, Evelyn Waller of Taylorville, IL; brothers-in-law, Dean (Cynthia) Haney of Buddha, TX and Carl (Shawn) Haney of Bloomington, IL; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life for Robert BonDurant, Jr. will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 2:00 pm EST at Camp Krietenstein, 6445 E. Co. Rd. 575N, Centerpoint, Indiana 47840. All are invited to attend.
Memorial may be made to the Divernon United Methodist Church, Capital Canine Training Club or Abraham Lincoln Counsel of Scouting America.
