Norma Eileen Jenkins Devlin passed away on November 27, 2025 at Cass County Nursing Home in Virginia, Illinois. Eileen was born on May 27, 1948 in Taylorville, Illinois. She was the fifth of ten children born to Ray and Frances (Boarman) Jenkins. Eileen married Bernard Devlin on Feb. 10, 2001 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Springfield, Illinois. He survives.
She is also survived by five sisters Elaine Webster, Ludy (Kent) Ayers, Rita Davis, Kay (Rick) Piatchek, and Rose Gorney; two brothers Kenny (VJ) Jenkins and Don Jenkins, and a sister-in-law Dixie Jenkins. Eileen also leaves many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Preceding her in death were her parents, bother Doug Jenkins, bother Ed Jenkins and a nephew and niece.
Eileen graduated from Pawnee High School and then Illinois State University in 1970. After graduation she began her teaching career at Porta Middle School in Petersburg, Illinois where she taught for 33 years. During this time, she was actively involved in the IEA and NEA where she served as an officer, a national delegate as well as other positions. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Beta Lambda Chapter and served as a recording secretary for eight years.
Eileen led a very active life and had many interests and hobbies. One of her favorite activities was dancing which led her to the Boot Kickers dance classes. There she met Bernie her husband to be. With his help, she began teaching classes and continued to do that for 13 years.
She loved traveling too and enjoyed many sister trips with her sisters. These adventures involved lots of shopping, good food, and memories that will last forever. Her travels also included many bus trips with teacher friends and family.
Eileen loved her crafts. She was always busy sewing, crocheting, knitting or doing cross stitch embroidery. Over the years she made many keepsakes for family and friends.
Eileen was a member of St. Mary's in Pawnee, St. Agnes in Springfield and most recently St. Augustine in Ashland where she was a member of the choir. She also helped the music director by organizing, copying, filing and grouping music selections to be used for the church year and for special events.
Visitation will be held from 4pm to 6pm, Monday, December 1, 2025 at St. Augustine Hall in Ashland. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30am, Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at St. Augustine Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer in Springfield or Easterseals central Illinois or a charity of the donor's choice.
