Michael L. Smith

Michael L. Smith, 69 of Chicago, formerly of Pawnee passed away Monday, January 8, 2024.

He was born December 12, 1954 in Taylorville, the son of Robert and Edith Gilvin Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Rhonda Smith.

He graduated from Pawnee High School in 1973 and he was salutatorian.  He graduated from SIU Carbondale in 1977 with a double bachelors degree and later received his master’s degree from the University of Michigan.  Michael worked for the federal government for 20 years.  He later went to work for the City of Chicago and retired in 2020.

Surviving are one sister, Sandy (David) Bell; companion, Gilbert Perez; dog, Coco; one brother-in-law, James Smith; one aunt; two uncles; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 11am till time of services at 12:30pm, Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at the Pawnee United Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Davis officiating.  Burial will be in Horse Creek Cemetery, Pawnee.
