Marshall Kay Bickel Obituary

Marshall Kay Bickel, 81 of Auburn, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at his home.


He was born May 12, 1944 in Auburn Township, the only son and second child of Clarence Orville and Adah Marie Estrop Bickel.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Delores E. Walkington.


He married Susan Gayle Lindblad on March 27, 1971 in Springfield. 


Marshall was a farmer all his life, inheriting his love of the land and strong work ethic from his father.  He was a 1962 graduate of Virden High School.  Marshall worked at Sears in Springfield, when he met his wife.  He later worked and retired from Sloan Implement Co. in Virden.  He served as a member of the Virden School Board, held a private pilot license and was a member of the Model A Ford Club.


He was a member of the Auburn Baptist Church.  Marshall embodied his faith and lived a life of great integrity and sacrifice.  He served the church in the offices of deacon and trustee for decades.


Surviving are his wife, Susan; three children, Jason (Davina) Bickel, Amy Bickel and Justin Bickel; six grandchildren, Alec Bickel, Jena Sams, Joshua Bickel, William Bickel, Jacob Bickel and Isabelle Bickel; and one nephew, Scott Walkington.


Visitation will be held from 2pm till 4pm, Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Bramley Funeral Home, Auburn.  Funeral service will be held at 11am, Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Funk officiating.  Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.
