Lowell Thomas "Tom" Handy of Auburn passed away the evening of Friday, March 6, 2020.
He was born December 14, 1933 in Auburn, Illinois, the son of Leslie and Ethel Journey Handy. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Stanley, Ellis and Larry and two sisters, Eilleen Boesdorfer and Juanita Cardosi.
Tom was a graduate of Auburn High School, a United States Marine veteran and had a long career as a union brick mason. He was well known in Auburn because of his willingness to help his community. He was an active American Legion and VFW member, assisting in fundraisers and serving in the honor guard. He also donated his time and bricklaying skills to various community projects, notably the memory walk in the city of Auburn's square. In 2006 he was presented with the VFW "Outstanding Citizen Award."
Tom is survived by his partner Shirley Deheve of Auburn, sons Tom (Jeanne) Handy and Jerry (D-Anna) Handy of Springfield, brothers Charles (Charlene) Handy of Virden and Harry Handy of Okawville and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 11th, 2020 at Bramley Funeral Home in Auburn with Reverend Josh Mangano officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Auburn VFW and American Legion.
