Julie Ann Baker Dixon, 86, of Pawnee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Sunrise Senior Living Center in Bloomingdale, Illinois. She was surrounded by the love and care of family.
Julie was born in Evanston, Illinois, on December 10, 1939, the daughter of the late George and Dorothy Allen Baker. She was a proud 1958 graduate of Pawnee High School and continued her education at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), where she studied education.
On July 30, 1960, Julie married Max B. Dixon, at the Pawnee Methodist Church. Together, they built a life centered around family, friendship, laughter, and love. They raised 3 sons, Steve, Scott and Michael. Julie dedicated many years of her life to helping others. She served as an Administrative Assistant at Lyons Township High School and was known for her kindness. Throughout her life, Julie gave her time and talents to her community. She served as a PTA member, Pawnee High School Alumni Treasurer, and patient volunteer at Springfield Memorial Hospital. She was also an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Peter Meyer Chapter, and the Red Hat Club.
Julie and Max shared a love of traveling, entertaining at their home, and bringing family and friends together. Julie loved new adventures, and when someone invited her, she was ready to go! Some of their happiest moments were spent around a table filled with home cooking, and the people they loved. Julie and Max truly embraced their loving communities of Western Springs and Pawnee with active social calendars and many dear friendships.
After more than 40 years in Western Springs, Illinois, Julie and Max returned to their roots in Pawnee, where they retired in the cherished Baker family home, built by Julie’s great-grandfather George Baker.
Julie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Max. She is survived by her three sons, Stephen (wife, Cindy), Scott (wife, Melanie), and Michael (wife, Susan); seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her brother, George Allen Baker of Algonquin, Illinois. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and the many wonderful memories she created will remain in their hearts forever.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Horse Creek Cemetery, Pawnee.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pawnee Food Pantry PO Box 304 Pawnee IL 62558.
