John D. Duval, 73 of Divernon passed away peacefully Sunday, July 2, 2023 at his home with his wife and two daughters by his side.
He was born November 15, 1949 in Springfield, the son of Alfred and Elsie (Shepherd) Duval Jr.
John married Carol E. Rhodes on July 5, 1969 in Jacksonville, NC.
John enlisted and served in the USMC during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Divernon Fire Department for several years. He worked for John H. Rhodes Painting & Contractor and later took over the business as Duval Painting. John was well known for being a perfectionist in his work and painted for many years all over the area. When he was not working, he enjoyed watching his loving grandkids play sports and visiting and helping his many friends.
Surviving are his wife Carol; two daughters, Laurie (Brett Conner) Call and Dawn (Todd) Smith; seven grandchildren, Matthew Call Jr, Elizabeth Call, Peyton Conner, Joshua (Nicole) Smith, Austin “AJ” Smith, Hannah Smith and Hayden Smith; two brothers, Alfred “Bump” (Peggy) Duval III and Jerry (Shawn) Duval; one sister, Mary “Kaye” (Tom) McGinnis; two cousins, Jim (Dorothy) Shepherd and Marianne (John) Still; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Brush Creek Cemetery, Divernon on July 10, 2023 at 11am with Pastor David Van Bebber officiating. Full military honors will be accorded. A catered dinner will follow at Bramley’s Reception Hall.
Memorials may be made to the Divernon American Legion, Divernon Sportsman’s Club, or a charity of your choice.
