James "Jim" R. Sherwood

James “Jim” R. Sherwood of Auburn passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. 

He was born April 17,1949, in Springfield, the son of Frank and Noella (DesChene) Sherwood. 

He married Carol Turvey on November 28, 1970.

Surviving is the love of his life, his wife Carol, daughter Heather (Donnie) Burton of Auburn, son Richard (Sarah) Sherwood of Springfield and Stephanie (Mike) Moormann of St. Louis, seven grandchildren; Kayley and Mackenzie Sherwood, Paige and Megan Burton, Devon and Adaline Bennett and Jordan Moormann.  Also surviving are two brothers, Robert (Nancy) Sherwood of Milwaukee, WI and John (Debi) Sherwood of Taylorville, IL.  He was preceded in death by his father Frank and mother Noella.

Jim was a coal miner at Peabody #10 in Pawnee, IL until 1990, at which time he retired and spent the rest of his working years as an entrepreneur.  He was an avid golfer and coin collector.  Jim never met a stranger and he could chat for hours with his friends and family.  He was a true family man.  He loved cheering on his kids and then grandkids at all their events and he had a smile that would light up any room he entered.  Above all, he was most proud of the life and family he and his beloved wife Carol spent more than 52 years building together. 

Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm, Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Bramley Funeral Home in Auburn.  Services will be at 10:30 am, Friday at the funeral home with Deacon Denny Baker officiating.  Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.
