James L. Hurst, 87 of Auburn passed away Monday, December 18, 2023 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
He was born September 8, 1936 in Springfield, the son of Donald and Cleona Riley Hurst. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa Colleen.
He married Judith Kay Kaesebier.
Jim attended Feitshans High School (Class of 1955), Lincoln Land College and graduated from Illinois College and attended UIS.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Sergeant. Jim worked as a plant manager for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company and Texas Eastern Pipeline Company. He took early retirement in 1992 and with 3 partners started Big Inch Pipeline Fabrication and Construction Company Inc of Montezume, IN. With 5 of his children, he started Monster Wireless Internet LLC, The Stables on Horse Farm Rd. LLC, Triple J Antique Autos, Arnold Sports Memorabilia all in Auburn area and H & H Property Management of Cincinnati, OH.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, where he was actively involved and served on several national committees at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO.
Surviving are his wife, Judith; six children, six children, Dan Joseph (Gari) Hurst of Springfield, Tim Christopher (Becky) Heren of Auburn, Gregory Mitchell (Ellen) Hurst of Mainville, OH, Michael Jon (Beth) Heren of Auburn, Joseph Todd (Carla) Heren of Waverly and Crystal Lynn (Chris) Arnold of Auburn.; 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Donna Pearson; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9:30am till time of services at 11am, Friday, December 22, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Auburn with Rev. Martin Kaufmann officiating. Burial will be at Cumberland Sugar Creek Cemetery, Glenarm.
Memorial may be made to any Veterans Organization.

I would like all my family to know that I love GOD and hope you all would know and love HIM as my beloved wife Judy has helped me to know and love HIM and come to know that only through HIS Son JESUS CHRIST can we all live, not die.
