Jack Baggerly Obituary

Jack L. Baggerly passed away on July 8, 2025, in Portland, Oregon.

He was born on a farm near Versailles, Illinois on April 29, 1930, to Harry Lester Baggerly and Lucy Merle Garrison Baggerly.

In 1943 the family moved to a small farm just north of Auburn.  Jack attended Auburn schools and participated in sports in high school.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jeffrey (Carol) Baggerly and stepson Ronald Harris, his brothers Harold (Juanita) Baggerly, Judson (Shirley) Baggerly and his sisters Betty (Don) Graegin, Linda Sue Baggerly and Margaret Silveus Rebbe.

He is survived by his wife Liz, sons Robin (Jody) Baggerly of Glenarm, Il. and Larry (Kim) Baggerly of Springfield, Il, sister Donna Hock of Springfield, Illinois and brother Harry Baggerly (Janet) of Rockville, Indiana and many nieces and nephews.

Jack’s Military career spanned over 25 years and he served in both the Navy and Army. He received several medals including 1 Silver Star, 2 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart and medals from the Vietnam Republic.

After his Military service he lived in Raytown, Missouri where he worked as a juvenile detective on the Police Force. He moved to Ocean Beach, California with Laura Zimmerman, whom he later married. The couple moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico and then to Albuquerque where they lived in a beautifully landscaped community.  Jack was elected several times president of the homeowner’s association and was known to bring flowers to new and not-so-new residents. After their divorce they remained good friends.  In Albuquerque Jack met Liz and they married.  Jack filled their home with paintings and wood carvings he purchased, and he spent long hours in the backyard listening to birds and watching squirrels.  The couple moved to Portland, Oregon in 2022.

Jack was a snappy dresser, a socialist, a gentle soul, a lover of Native American jewelry and someone who had an artist’s eye when it came to buying or arranging furniture.  He will be missed.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. (Illinois time) on August 2, 2025, at Pullium Cemetery, Modesto, Illinois.
