Gordon L. “Butch” Nave I, a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, passed away from complications of Parkinson’s Disease on May 16, 2021 at his home.
Butch was born on December 23, 1944 in Taylorville, IL. He graduated from Edinburg High School where he pitched for the baseball team and played the trumpet in the school band.
Butch married Marianne Dixon on June 7, 1969 and the two shared a life of enjoying bass fishing, travelling, doing family research, and raising their two loving children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Butch served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1969 as an airplane mechanic. He was stationed in Texas, Florida, Tripoli, Libya, and North Africa. In his youth, Butch had a newspaper route and worked at the local grocery store. As an adult, he worked as a barber, for Fiat Allis, then retired from the Illinois Department of Public Aid. Butch was a serious Cubs fan, which was made difficult by Marianne’s dedication to the Cardinals, but they managed to work out their differences. In addition to the hobbies he shared with Marianne, Butch was a member of the Masonic Lodge #161 (Virden) and Sangchris Bass Club. He made fishing lures, golfed, took care of his yard and garden, socialized with neighbors, and met friends at the Chatham Cafe. He shared his work ethic, fishing skills, and love for the outdoors and animals with his children and grandchildren.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Ottie and Wilma Nave and his brother William “Bill” Nave.
He is survived by wife, Marianne; son, Gordon II “Dutch” Nave (fiance, Carol Wallace) of Chatham; daughter, Ginger Nave (Blake Withers); grandchildren, Savahna Tremain (Josh Carter), Peyton Withers, Gracy Nave, Isaac Nave, Emily Sponagle, and Elizabeth Sponagle; great-grandchildren, Kayden and Dallas; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family invites guests for a visitation on Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 5-7 p.m., with Masonic Rites to follow, at Bramley Funeral Home, 550 E. Jackson St., Auburn, IL. The funeral will take place on Friday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bramley Funeral Home in Auburn with Chaplin Mike Hickey officiating, followed by a procession to Edinburg Cemetery for burial.
