Esther Grace Cameron, 88 of Springfield formerly of Virden passed away Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by her family.
She was born May 7, 1932 in Carlinville, the daughter of Arthur and Agnes Fern (Arter) Kirkland.
Shortly after graduating from Carlinville High School, Esther received her bachelor’s degree at SIU Carbondale. Later on in life she received her masters degree at Blackburn College.
She married Donald Cameron on June 20, 1954 and he preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 2007. Also, preceded in death by two sons, Mark David and John Michael; grandson, Steven; great-granddaughter, Gabriella; sister, Mary O’Neil and brother, John Kirkland.
Esther Grace taught grade school in the Virden area for 37 years. She was a pastor’s wife who played piano, taught Sunday school and Bible school. She was very loving to everyone she met. She was a member of Calvary Church in Springfield.
Surviving are one daughter, Susan Cameron; three sons, Cliff (Cheryl), Donnie and Todd (Dawn) Cameron; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Johnston; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10am till time of services at 11:30am, Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021 at Calvary Church, 501 W Hazel Dell Rd, Springfield. Burial will be in Virden Cemetery.
CDC protocol shall be followed with face masks required.
