Dolores R. Lederbrand, 87, of Springfield (formerly of Pawnee, IL), passed away February 9, 2024 at The Villas Senior Care Community, in Sherman.
She was born February 11, 1936, to George and Marie B. Johnson at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.
Dolores married E. Wayne “Pops” Lederbrand on February 24, 1976, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and they made their life in Pawnee, IL, where they operated Lederbrand Farms for many years prior to Wayne’s death. Dolores, who lovingly became known to all she met as “Granny,” worked for the Illinois Secretary of State for 39 years 5 months.
Granny loved spending time with her family and enjoying the simple things in life - hosting a Sunday dinner of fried chicken (or cheesy spaghetti for the picky ones), boating at Mark Twain Lake, or simply sitting at the pool and hearing the laughs of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On a nice day, Granny could be found sitting on her porch swing enjoying a Dr. Pepper, always with a straw or out of a Dixie Cup, and you may have found her listening to Elvis. Granny found joy from watching and sharing life with those she loved.
Dolores is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her daughter, Debra Senger; her parents; her brother, Charles Johnson; her sister, Shirley Sutton; and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Qualls. Surviving are her children, David (Carrie) Qualls of Rising Sun, MD, Deanne (John) Keating of Quincy, IL, and Donna (Robert) Dodd of Cantrall, IL; a stepdaughter, Susan (Christopher) Heaton, of Chatham, IL; ten grandchildren, Nikki (Ryan) Machin, Trent Karhliker, Shannon Qualls, Quenton (Allison) Keating, Quentessa (Pierce) Matthews, Quenna Keating, Zachary (Brileigh) Dodd, Jared (Allison) Dodd, Brady Dodd and Taylor (Dustin) Tellschow; three step-grandchildren, Caleb Hufnell, Christopher (Jorden) Heaton and Carlie Heaton; eight great-grandchildren (and two more to be born in 2024), Tyler and Peyton Cowan, Lexy and Shelby Karhliker, Sage Keating, Emma, Sophie and Nora Dodd; three step-great grandchildren, Jaxon, Colton and Stevie Heaton; one great-great-grandchild, Sawyer Cowan; her sister, Eleanor Dodegge, of Sycamore, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 17, 2024, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. at St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church in Auburn with Father Richard Chiola presiding. Burial will follow at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee.
