Debra Morthole Obituary

Debra Jean Morthole (Nation) passed away from complications due to pneumonia peacefully at Memorial Hospital on February 20, 2025, surrounded by family at the age of 72.

Deby was born on May 3, 1952, in Taylorville to parents, Robert and Virgie Nation who preceded her in death.

Deby and Jack Morthole, of Taylorville, were married at their Divernon home on July 5, 2000. The couple shared a passion for travel, often embarking on road trips in search of unique rocks and minerals to add to their immense collection. Their love for music, especially the soulful sounds of the Blues, led them to frequent music festivals.

Back home, Deby and Jack found joy in cultivating their beautiful garden, where they spent countless hours tending to their colorful flowers and plants. Their beloved dog, Plato, was a constant companion and provided unwavering love and loyalty.

Deby retired in 2018 from the insurance industry after nearly thirty years working for Springer Insurance and later Denton-Merritt Insurance. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren, Mea and Mason. She loved to share stories of their accomplishments with anyone who would listen.

Her loving family and friends will deeply miss Deby. She is survived by her son, Ryan (Alison) Jacobs, her grandchildren, Meana and Mason Jacobs, her siblings, Dan (Jan) Nation and Kathy (Doug) Jackson; her stepmother, Lorrie Nation; her step-siblings, Mary Ann, Randy (Cindy), and Brett Merciel; and several nieces and nephews.

Deby was preceded in death by her husband, Jack.

A celebration of life will be held on March 1, 2025, from 12:00p - 4:00p at Taylorville Christian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

We will forever cherish Deby's memories and hold her close. May she finally rest in eternal peace.
