Courtney Dee Elliott, 87 of Springfield, formerly of Auburn passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 29, 1935, in rural Loami, the son of Merrill W. and Mabel L. Dodd Elliott.
Courtney was a 1953 graduate of Auburn High School. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves with the 303rd Ordinance, and in 1961 he was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis. He retired from the State Department of Human Services (formerly Department of Mental Health) after 38 years (1959-1997). He also worked for Internal Revenue Services, First National Bank of Springfield, and Allis-Chalmers. He was an avid fur trapper for 60 years. He was a member of the Auburn United Methodist Church.
Courtney was preceded in death by three sisters, Malquin Carol, Marilyn Lane and Mildred Sharp.
Surviving are one brother, Darrell of Springfield; three nieces, one nephew; several great-nieces and nephews, and several cousins.
Private family services will be held. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.
