Anna (Ann) May Twyford, 93, of Chatham, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Lee Memorial Health Park in Fort Myers, Florida, surrounded by her family.
She was born on July 25, 1931, in Jacksonville, Illinois, to Louis G. and Anna M. Taylor. She was a 1950 graduate of Jacksonville High School. Anna was a member of the Auburn Baptist Church for 60 years, the Chatham American Legion Auxiliary, and the Sangamon County Home Extension, where she received the Homemaker of the Year Award.
Ann married Robert E. Twyford on September 3, 1955, in Jacksonville. He preceded her in death in 2011. She was a homemaker and farm wife; she drove trucks and tractors, tended to livestock, and served as boss of the bean-walking crew. Together, they farmed for 61 years in the Chatham area, retiring after the fall of 2010. Ann was an exceptional artist, crafter, and costume maker. She could paint, draw, and create anything. At 93, Ann served as an inspiration to many, exercising with her PowerWorks friends, bowling on two teams, playing cards with friends, and sharing her artistic talents. She loved being “Grandma on the Farm” to her grandchildren and “GiGi” to her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by daughters Carolyn Ford (James Cissell) of Daytona Beach, Florida, Kim (Tim) Brooks of Fort Myers, Florida, and Debbie (Steve) Copp of Glenarm; grandchildren Megan (John) Balbach, Amanda (Jason) Skalko, Joshua (Laura) Brooks, and Jacob Brooks; Taylor (Daniel) Stefancic and Kendal Copp; great-grandchildren Eliza Balbach, Bennett and Brooks Skalko, William, Jackson, and Vivian Brooks; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Ann’s family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Bramley Funeral Home, 550 E. Jackson Street, Auburn, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025 with Pastor Amy Bickel officiating at the funeral home. Pallbearers include: Joshua Brooks, Jacob Brooks, Kendal Copp, Jason Skalko, John Balbach, and Daniel Stefancic. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Auburn Baptist Church or Springfield Ceramics and Craft Club Youth Art Outreach Grant.
