Robert A. “Birdie“ Jacobs, 71 of Chatham passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018 at his home.
He was born Dec. 31, 1946 in Springfield the son of Fredrick and Mary Lonergan Jacobs. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Fredrick Bruce Jacobs.
He married Sharon “Kookie” Lonergan and she preceded him in death on Nov. 16, 2004. He then married Jean Courtney on Oct. 10, 2015.
Birdie served in the U.S. Army. He was a ham radio operator, KC90JZ. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Chatham. Birdie was also a lifetime member of the TRN Club and a member of Chatham American Legion Post 759. He was an avid traveler and flea market finder. Birdie never met a stranger.
Surviving are his wife, Jean; daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” (Don) Conroy; son, Jeremiah “Jeremy” (Teresa) Jacobs; stepson, Ben (Kerri) Jackson; two stepdaughters, Kari (Kyle) Brown and Jessica Cloe; four grandchildren, Christopher, Gabrielle, Bryson, and Lucas; 13 step grandchildren and his beloved dog, Curly D.
Memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chatham with a visitation one hour prior to the service with Rev. Clarence Rogers officiating. A celebration of life will follow the service at A J’s Corner in Chatham.
Memorials may be made to the Chatham Fire Protection District or St. John’s Lutheran Church.
