Dorothy Gerhard Obituary

Dorothy June Gleeson Gerhard passed away August 2, 2017 in Wenatchee, Wa.

She was born Oct. 1, 1922 in Auburn, the daughter of John Alexander Gleeson and Nellie Gertrude Murray.

She attended Knox College in Jacksonville, IL for two years, majoring in music, until the outbreak of WWII, when she returned to Auburn.

While attending a concert at the Virden town square bandstand, she met H. LeVerne Gerhard, whom she later married on Jan. 28, 1945. She and LeVerne farmed outside Waggoner until 1986, when they retired to Morrisonville.

After LeVerne’s death in 2001, Dorothy continued to live in Morrisonville until moving to Wenatchee, WA in 2006 to be close to family.

Dorothy’s great love has always been music. She was active in local Methodist churches serving many years as organist. She also loved sewing, serving as a 4-H sewing leader; in later years, she turned to quilting.

She loved family, caring for her mother, her mother-in-law and aunt until their passings.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, LeVerne, brother, Murray, and nephew, Michael.

She is survived by her daughter Beverly (Don Julien) Owen; granddaughter, Shelley (Gordon) Seslar; and great grandson Jake Snitily all of Wenatchee, WA; and by two great grandnieces in Iowa.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Auburn Cemetery.
