Norma Elaine (VanGieson) King, 97 of Pawnee died in her home Wed., March 24, 2021.
Norma was born in Pawnee on May 9, 1923 to Lewis Ray and Lela (Starkweather) VanGieson. She married Doyle Cook; they divorced. She married James “Earl” King on December 22, 1963; he preceded her in death in 2003. Also preceded in death by two daughters, Leona Lee (infancy) and Barbara Ann Cook in 1988.
Norma worked at IL National Ins/AIG for 27 ½ years retiring in 1986 as an executive secretary; then worked for 11 ½ years as secretary at Lewis Memorial Christian Village until March 1999. She was a member of Auburn Christian Church since 1964 where she was pianist and later organist for 39 years and served as secretary for 30 plus years. She was also organist for Bramley Funeral Home for 11 years. Music was an important part of her life. She was a member of Auburn Senior Citizen Choir and a member of the Auburn Chatham Homemaker Unit and bowled in their league.
Norma is survived by two daughters, Karen Bilbruck of Auburn and Kathy (Fred) Ellis of Pawnee; one son, George “Sonny” Cook (companion, Jean Wellman) of Girard; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Seiders of Farmersville and Shirley DeHeve of Auburn; one brother, Merle (Linda) VanGieson of Enosburge, VT; one niece, Cindy Seiders and two nephews.
Family will meet family and friends from 10 am till time of services at 12 noon, Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Bramley Funeral Home in Auburn with Rev. Nick Oyler officiating. Burial will be in Brush Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Auburn Christian Church or charity of donor’s choice.
