Pam Friel, 74 of Chatham passed away Thursday, February 29, 2024 at her home.
She was born September 16, 1949 in Jacksonville, the daughter of Ellsworth and Opal Stafford Marshall.
She married Jim Friel on June 6, 1970. She is preceded in death by her parents, three grandchildren, Caitlyn and Caydon Ihlenfeldt and Logan Grossner.
Pam graduated from Illinois State with a bachelor’s degree in special education. She was a teacher spending most of her time at Pawnee Jr. High retiring from SASED. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, where she was active in the OWLS senior group. She was also a member of D.A.R.
She enjoyed her grandchildren and going to all their sporting events, traveling, baking and shopping.
Surviving are her husband, Jim; three children, Amy (Eric) Ankrom, Melissa (Tim) Grossner and Matthew (Lori) Friel; 13 grandchildren, Allyson (Derrick) Johnston, Nathan (Josh) Piper, Evan (Lanie) Ihlenfeldt, Brandon (Tahara) Ihlenfeldt, Ben Ihlenfeldt, Jackson Ihlenfeldt, Abby Grossner, Izzy Grossner, Brenna Friel, Gavin Friel, Landon Friel; two step-grandchildren, Isaac Ankrom and Nikki Ankrom; four great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Ihlenfeldt, Beckham Ihlenfeldt, Ella Ihlenfeldt and Ava Ihlenfeldt; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 11am till 12:15 pm with a funeral mass at 12:30pm at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with Rev. Joe Molloy officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.
Memorials may be made to Easter Seals or Daughter’s of the American Revolution.
