Charles H. Sharp, 80 of Chatham passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024 at his daughter’s home.
He was born August 10, 1943 in Chicago, the son of Russell and Ethel Fox Sharp. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie Joe and Lonnie Edward; and one nephew, Christopher Ahrendt.
Chuck married Jessica Gilreath on October 20, 1979 in Springfield.
Charles was enlisted in the Air Force and served at Williams AFB, Arizona from 1964-1968. He then went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Arts in Admin. of Criminal Justice from U of I Chicago Circle in 1970. This was followed by a 26 year career with the ATF based solely at the Springfield, IL office. While with ATF he participated in creation and growth of the Midwest National Response Team, he also obtained extensive training, carried a variety of certifications and travelled nationally throughout his career.
In his youth he earned Eagle Scout status and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow. He continued in Boy Scouts as Scout Leader when his son entered the scouts. Chuck enjoyed the outdoors from camping and exploring as a youth to clearing the wooded area on his property for bonfires as an adult. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing, coaching, and watching many sports and was an avid Cubs, Bears and Blackhawks fan. He was proud to hold lifetime memberships to the Elks Lodge 158 and the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Jessica; two children, Stephanie (Steven) Bartlett and Jason Sharp; two granddaughters, Olivia and Mallory Bartlett; three siblings, Ethel (Glenn) Ahrendt, Patricia Ann (Fred) Halek and Russell Dean Sharp; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 10am till time of services at 11am, Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Sugar Creek Methodist Church, Chatham with Rev. Paul Dinges officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Sugar Creek Cemetery, Glenarm.
Memorials may be made to Sugar Creek Methodist Church or charity of your choice.
