Norman “Wayne” Moose, 78, of Auburn passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017 at his home after an extended illness.

He was born May 20, 1939 in Auburn, the son of Glenn and Fannie Moose.

Wayne met and married his high school sweetheart Mary Jane Rutkoski on October 5, 1957.

He graduated from Auburn High School in 1957, where he was active in sports and agriculture activities.    Wayne was engaged in farming for over 40 years, in addition to working with Hulcher Emergency Services, Capital Machinery and his crowning achievement, Train Master for Johnson Grain Company operating and loading BNSF shuttle trains for 5 years.  Also, in Wayne’s second act, he and Jane built and operated Eastland Retirement Community.  Wayne and Jane’s attention to detail and family orientation have made Eastland one of Central Illinois finest assisted living facilities. 

Wayne was no stranger to high adventure as he and Jane have traveled the world enjoying hiking, biking, snow and water skiing, family adventures and was an instrument-rated pilot flying his own plane for years.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson, Patrick David Moose earlier this fall.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Jane; children, David (Helen) Moose, Denise Monroe, Debra (David) Gheen, Dale (Kathy) Moose; five grandchildren, Robert Dale Moose, Daniel Patrick Moose, Hannah Gheen Eckles, Anne Elizabeth Moose and Elizabeth Marie Moose and one great-grandson, Henry James Eckles; brother, Marvin (Gwen) Moose and sister-in-law, Frances (Donald) Passmann.

Cremation rites were accorded.                                                              

Private family gathering was held at his home.
