Nellie A. Allen

Nellie A. Allen, 86, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital.

She was born May 25, 1931 in Divernon, the daughter of Wick and Nell Van Huss.  She was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister and one son-in-law, Kirby Peters.

She married John Allen in 1952 and he preceded her in death. 

Nellie was a member of 1st Presbyterian Church, Divernon, and member of Women’s Legion Auxiliary.  She worked for the Divernon Police Department for many years.  They referred to her as Sgt. Allen.

She was a co-parade marshall for the Divernon Homecoming, received an Illinois Woman of Achievement Award from the State of Illinois and was given a proclamation from the City of Springfield declaring February 20th to be Nellie Allen day.

Nellie was a blessing to so many people sending out as many as thirty to forty cards a month.  She loved her family and loved get-togethers.  She was an angel, loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her nine children, Jane (Rick) Irwin, Judy (Jim) Crouch, John Allen (Shannon), Jeff Allen, Joe Allen (Cheri), Joyce Peters, Janet Kay ‘KK’ (Bill) Brewer, Jennifer Rendleman (Jeff), Jewel (Doug) Brant; three grandchildren, Jacob Allen, Harrison and Myles Brant; many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 pm till 7 pm, Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 at the Divernon Presbyterian Church.  Services will be at 10 am, Saturday at the church with Rev. Steve Smith and Rev. Rick Irwin officiating.  Burial will be in Brush Creek Cemetery, Divernon.

Memorials may be made to Divernon Presbyterian Church or charity of your choice.
