Donald J. Ryan, 74 of Springfield passed away peacefully, Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at home.
He was born December 1, 1938 in Springfield, IL, the son of William & Clara Schmidt Ryan.
He married Marjorie A Miller on May 28, 1987. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Edward Tarr, two sisters, Barbara Ann Ryan Jacobs and Irine G Ryan Siliskie.
Mr. Ryan was of the Lutheran faith and attended Arisen Savior Lutheran Church of Buffalo, IL. He worked at Franklin Life Insurance Company for 39 years, Capital Bus Tours for 10 years; and Care Giver for 5 years. Was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1998 and served as President from 2010 to 2011 and Past Worthy President also served as President from 2012 – present. He was a proud Irishman and enjoyed sketching, painting and woodworking, especially creating mementos for his grandchildren. Always willing to lend a hand and never knew a stranger.
Mr. Ryan is survived by his wife Marge of 26 years, 7 children, Marsha Crouch of Indianapolis, IN, Donna (David) Gresham of Auburn, Steven (Sue) Ryan of Roanoke, Robert (Kathy) Ryan of Eureka, Ruth (George) Southard of Louisville, KY, Dennis (Theresa) Ryan of Springfield, and Timothy (Julia) Ryan of Rochester. He was the proud grandfather of 22 and great grandfather of 4; 5 sisters Patricia (William) Benson of Poplar, WI; Mary Springer of Rochester, Eileen Edwards of Maroa; twin sister Donna (Larry) Neuman of Chatham and Carolyn (Glenn) Vancil of Springfield; 1 brother William (Arnette) Ryan of Murphysboro; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. till 5 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Bramley Funeral Home, Auburn. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. David J. Bueltmann. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
